The Word Bay

Wordbay 1.6 released – fully compatible with the new eBay RSS feed

July 12th, 2011

The end of June came and went – the date eBay initially said they would stop supporting their old RSS product feed. Although nothing momentous happened on 30th June, nevertheless the Wordbay eBay plugin was ready to handle the new feed and I have now released version 1.6 which fully supports it. It is available from the Downloads page or hit this page to find out how to get Wordbay if you don’t already – the price of Wordbay WILL be going up soon, I will announce more details about that in the week or two, but if you buy it now, you can still get it at the silly low price!

Anyway, migrating to the new feed was the easy part – I also added some cool new features to Wordbay:

  • sort dropdown added to template so visitors can now sort listings according to different criteria
  • global sorting options added so you can define your default listings sort order from the admin panel
  • percentage difference” (using “Levenshtein Distance”) introduced as a more sophisticated way of eliminating duplicate listings (geeky but very cool :) )
  • minimum bids option reintroduced – yay!
  • distance in miles/postcode introduced for local listings
  • custom listings header text implemented, can be changed per-post
  • listings now suppressed in blog RSS feeds
  • better handling of empty listings (eliminated some blank results pages)
  • eBay categories now hidden in back-end and on per-page options (click to reveal – they were taking up too much room)

…and some other little fixes etc.

What can I say, Wordbay is going from strength to strength – my next job is to properly widgetise it and also give it a more friendly API so programmers can use it in their own projects, even non-Wordpress-based sites! More on that as and when..!
