As you probably already know, the eBay RSS Generator tool changed over to a new format a few days ago, as announced previously by EPN. They say that the old format – which Wordbay and many other scripts rely on – will not be supported after June 30th. That means that these scripts will stop working on that date if nothing is done to upgrade them – McJiffy users especially take note, that script does not seem to be supported anymore and will not work once the old RSS feed is abandoned by eBay. The same probably applies to a number of ‘open-source’ and ‘free’-type scripts out there.
I actually suspect that eBay will extend this deadline considerably, since they would lose a massive amount of traffic overnight if they just killed the feed off. But I am not taking any chances with Wordbay – I would like to reassure you that I am working on a new version that will be fully compatible with the new RSS feed well before June 30th. It’s not a difficult job, but it is a little more work than I had anticipated, for a number of reasons.
The actual format of the returned feed is different, which is not what I was originally led to believe, so that will take a little reworking. Also, some of the old parameters look to be out for good.
If you want to see which parameters are now available, go and check out the feed generator – I will try to include as many of these parameters as possible in the new Wordbay version, but I will not be able to include any MORE than that, obviously – the new feed simply does not support them. Like ‘Item location’ and ‘Minimum bids’ (actually, the latter has been dead for a while) – sorry, we will just have to work round them somehow.
Some of these I MAY be able to implement within Wordbay internally, but right now I need to focus on making the plugin compatible with the new feed so that the transition is as smooth as possible. I will keep you posted – but the message is: worry ye not, it’s all under control!
